7 Tips on How to Run a Successful Business and Feel Great Doing It

by Michelle Salater on October 21, 2009

To say I’ve had a busy week is an understatement. It has been one of the most exciting, fast paced, opportunity-filled weeks I’ve ever had. Prospects are inquiring, I’m making strategic contacts, we have two new clients, and the PR bootcamp is filling up. Everything is flowing perfectly. Have I had stressful moments? Yes. Am I tired? Sure. But the good outweighs the negative.

So, what’s going on? What am I doing differently? What’s my “secret?” I wanted to know, so I sat down and wrote up a list. And I’ve decided to share my findings with you, dear blog readers. Here they are . . .

1) I made a conscious decision to do things differently. Specifically, I made those calls and wrote those emails I’d been meaning to write.
2) I followed up with everyone in my sales funnel. Simply following up got me one new client.
3) I took action instead of procrastinating. It’s amazing what happens when you take action on something instead of dwelling on it or worrying about it.
4) I delegated everything I don’t like doing or didn’t have the time to complete.
5) I stepped outside of my comfort zone and reached out to people I’ve wanted to contact.
6) I took my dog on longer walks.
7) I slept in an extra hour on Tuesday . . . and didn’t feel guilty about it.

What can you do differently the rest of this week? If you have something that’s worked for you, I’d love to hear it.

I, too slept in. At 4pm, after letting me work all day, Craig knows if he’s patient, he will get a much deserved trip to the dog park. That’s also my time to take in this nice weather and breathe a little (and socialize with other dog owners).

Over the past week, I have blogged more, facebooked more, and scoured twitter for new followees (even found my favorite college professor that now lives in Charleston). I attended a networking group on Monday and made a few really great connections there.

I am working harder on the followups and working to put our business in front of as many people as possible.

I now have 3 potential new clients waiting in the wings…and I’m ready to get busy helping them grow their businesses through the power of video!

Amazing how a few simple changes can make such a huge difference. Yay you!

I’ve been trying something new…I’m writing things down that I need to do *when I think of them* rather than trusting my memory to remember. Why bother my memory when I have paper and pen?

I am running and working out again consistently which for me is where my goals and creativity come from.

I’m glad you finally took Mama Mia for a walk. I was worried about her.
