No matter your industry, increasing your speaking engagements can have a huge effect on your brand exposure. Not to mention, it can dramatically increase your industry connections—which, for me, are invaluable resources. You never know what opportunities can arise from your connections.
Below are some of my favorite ways to share my expertise, connect with other professionals, and increase exposure:
Seek Out Joint Ventures: Joint ventures can create exceptional opportunities, but often require you to think outside the box. The keys to beneficial joint ventures are to always keep an open mind and think of creative ways you can join forces with other professionals—whether they’re involved in your industry or not.
For example, our client Hills of Africa Travel reached out to the Charleston Style Concierge owner, Lee Heyward, to cohost a telecall together. You might be thinking, “How do a personal stylist and African safari company relate?” The telecall was on packing for an African safari. Lee provided tips for minimizing luggage load, while Hills of Africa discussed appropriate safari wear and packing regulations. The call worked wonders for both companies and enabled them both to reach new markets!
Other ways to utilize joint ventures include cohosting webinars, swapping ads for newsletters, guest blogging for one another, and so much more. When used appropriately, joint ventures can be highly profitable for both parties involved.
Research Industry Conferences: Speaking at professional conferences is one of the best ways to become an established name in your industry. Conferences often attract professionals from around the country, and, depending on how large the event is, can attract individuals from around the globe. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to speak on stage, conferences offer the perfect setting for networking and meeting other prominent professionals. Who knows, you might even establish your next joint venture opportunity with a newfound connection!
Utilize Online Resources: Some of my favorite speaking opportunities have occurred on BlogTalkRadio. I’ve been interviewed by several radio hosts on this network, and I have seen the results from such guest appearances in the form of work inquiries and additional speaking opportunities.
Influential blogs are other great platforms that allow you to share your voice with other markets. When approached for a guest blog appearance, ask if you can submit a video interview instead of a written interview. This will act as a mini speaking engagement and could lead to future speaking opportunities.
What’s the most beneficial speaking engagement you’ve done? What were the results?
